Editorial: Welcome to CMU

1247

The Criterion wants to welcome all incoming freshmen to Colorado Mesa University. We hope every student has a great experience being a Maverick as they pursue their studies. We also wish to welcome back all returning members of our Mavily (Maverick family).

This is a fine institution for learning as well as enjoying fun activities outside of class. There are many opportunities to get involved with clubs and organizations such as The Criterion. Shameless plug: The Criterion meets on the second floor of the University Center every Monday night in room UC 211 and we welcome new writers with open arms.

While there are many opportunities to enjoy CMU, the university experience is up to the individual. In the past, some have claimed that CMU is boring, but they were wrong. CMU is only boring to boring individuals.

The Criterion urges all students to avoid boring behavior. Take advantage of the opportunities to engage in fun activities, get to know a wide variety of individuals, participate in clubs and/or organizations, be a part of something bigger than oneself. Doing so not only enhances a student’s experience at CMU; it enhances CMU as well.

Also, go to sporting events. In addition to the football games, there are many athletic teams that are exciting to watch and enjoy successful records. Attend plays and music recitals. There are many talented students who put on incredible performances.

Finally, The Criterion would like to offer special thanks for the success of creating this special edition. The Criterion’s advisor Bob Silbernagel was instrumental in the creation of this print edition, offering advice and wisdom from his many years of newspaper experience. David Drayer from the Daily Sentinel helped greatly with formatting.

Also, a special partnership was formed with Horizon Magazine for the special edition, and The Criterion benefited from the content and design offered by the fine organization.
