Earth Week is a week long celebration of Earth Day, which was Monday April 22. Globally, it is an entire week devoted to the focus of environmental issues across the world.

Here at Colorado Mesa University, we celebrated this week with various activities which started Monday and went through Sunday, April 28. Most of the events were done by the Sustainability Council.

On Monday, CMU kicked off the week with ‘Weigh the Waste’ which was held during lunch time in the University Center (UC) dining hall. The Programming Activities Council (PAC) also held an event in The Plaza, ‘Succulents with PAC,’ from noon – 2 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday April 23, students met up at the Outdoor Program to participate in the Riverfront Trail Clean-up. Later that evening, starting at 6:30 p.m., the ‘Recycled Art Gallery’ was held in the UC Meyer Ballroom.

On Wednesday April 24, there was a ‘Pop-up Thrift Shop and Coffee’ event that was held in The Plaza from noon – 5 p.m. Then at 5:30 p.m. there was a showing of the documentary film “Pandora’s Promise” in the UC Meyer Ballroom.

In The Plaza on Thursday April 25, there was an event called ‘Create your own tote bag’ from noon – 2 p.m.

Who doesn’t like to hike? Well, for those who enjoy hiking, there was a gathering to hike Wedding/Monument Canyon trail on Friday, April 26. For those who participated in the hike, they met up at the Outdoor Program at 2:30 p.m.

To round off the week, on Sunday April 28, there was a river clean-up organized. Sign up and the details were located at the Outdoor Program building prior to this date.
