Redshirt senior outfielder Brooke Doumer hit three home runs in a sweep of the Mountain Lions.

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) was looking for the momentum shift after a seventh inning loss yesterday against University of Colorado-Colorado Springs (UCCS). Doumer gave them just that as she bolted out three home runs in game one of Sunday’s doubleheader.

All of Doumer’s home runs also came in the first three innings of the game.

Doumer’s first home run of the afternoon was a solo home run on a 2-0 count to left field. In the next inning, she would hit another solo home run but this time to right field.

Her final dinger of the afternoon flew to center field in the third inning and was a two-run shot. Redshirt freshman outfielder Drew Sims was on base and scored on the play.

“ She just seemed to be seeing the ball and just was aggressive. She has had some tweaks with her swing, normally she is really good at working the count. She had a great day,” Assistant Coach Mercades Bohte said.

Doumer was not the only Maverick to hit a home run in game one. In the fifth inning redshirt sophomore infielder Aislyn Sharp hit a deep home run to left field adding to the Mavericks total. Redshirt sophomore designated player/pitcher Ellie Smith finished the game off for CMU hitting a three run home run allowing Doumer and redshirt sophomore outfielder Lauren Wedman to score.

Redshirt junior Paige Adair got the ball to start off Sunday afternoon and after a bit of a tough outing she looked to bounce back and help out her team in the circle.

“ I just went right at them like I always do. I didn’t change much, just tried to focus on spinning it rather than just focusing on the soreness. But really just focusing on spinning the ball and getting outs,” Adair said.

Adair pitched three games this weekend but that did not affect her game. She knew that she would have to come out and get outs early and that is what she did.

The CMU pitcher found herself in a jam when the bases were loaded for Brianna Santos in the fifth inning. Santos hit a grand slam that made UCCS within four runs of the lead.

Adair ended her weekend on that note but had a very impressive four and two third innings of work. She gave up five hits and four runs, while only walking one and had four strikeouts through her start Sunday.

Redshirt sophomore pitcher Shea Mauser made her first appearance of the weekend and only came in for one out in game one but started game two.

Mauser was able to go three and one third innings. She allowed three runs, four hits and three walks. She also struck out three Mountain Lions.

Smith finished off the game for CMU and recorded the save. She went one and two third innings and struck out two.

On the offensive side of things, the Mavericks got things going in the second with a bases loaded walk to Wedman. Smith then followed with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Sims. Freshman catcher Ally Distler then singled to center field giving Wedman and Doumer the opportunity to score.

UCC responded with a solo home run from Brianna Santos.

The Mavericks then had another big inning as they were able to put three runs on the board. A wild pitch allowed redshirt sophomore shortstop Ashley Bradford to score. Doumer and Sims scored again on a redshirt sophomore third baseman Nicole Christensen single.

CMU in the fourth found more insurance as Wedman singled up the middle allowing Bradford and Sims to score. On the same play, a throwing error from the center fielder allowed Doumer and Wedman to score making it a 11-3 game.

The Mavericks stay at home to take on Colorado Christian University next weekend in Grand Junction, Colo. starting on April 24.
