Former Director of Student Life Shanae Mundee has transferred to a new role as the Assistant Athletic Director. The transition began on March 3.

Mundee served as the Director of Student Life for four years, starting immediately after graduating college with a degree in sports management. Given the difference between her degree and her position at Colorado Mesa University (CMU), it’s clear that she grew and adapted to fit the role as the Director of Student Life.

“My background before I came to Student Life was in athletics. There’s just a lot of opportunity and change [switching over to the athletic department]. I thought it might be a good fit, with all the operations, it’s really similar to what I’m doing here in Student Life. There’s a lot of similarities, but it was a tough decision to even apply for the ticket.” Mundee said.

Student Life is the department in charge of helping the student-lead organizations with guidance, payment of their staff and overall seeing to larger events on campus. Some of the organizations they lead are the Associated Student Government (ASG) and The Cultural Inclusion Council (CIC).

Mundee was The Criterion’s Student Life leader, and as she moves on, we will continue to see her prosper at CMU in a new role as Assistant Athletic Director.

“It’s a new position that doesn’t have as much to do with students, which will be really different for me. Mainly it’s budgets, helping all the various teams manage their budgets, travel, procurement and all that stuff. President Marshall offered me to oversee the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, so [there will be] student interaction there, which will be really fun,” said Mundee.

After the last director left during the previous semester, Mundee has been hired to step into the role, beginning immediately. With her degree in athletic management, this is a chance for her to step into an occupation that better matches her education.

“Where my family’s at, with a second kid on the way I think this is a good position that we can balance really well. […] This is a good fit for where I’m at in my career, both professionally and personally,” said Mundee.

Mundee was not only the Director of Student Life, but a mentor; she helped students, led dutifully and changed Student Life for the better.
