Dining with Dane: Colorado Craft Coffee and Beer House

If you are looking for a homey and fun setting to enjoy some amazing drinks, Coffee and Beer is the place for you.

The owners’ genuine friendliness and business model really sets them apart. When customers walk through the door, they are greeted by owners James and Amanda Ferguson, who give a rundown of the locally sourced drinks on tap and make you feel right at home with their welcoming attitudes.

Both Fergusons were born and raised in Grand Junction and have worked at local wineries in the past. They opened Coffee and Beer with the intention of giving back to the Grand Valley community.
Everything there is from Colorado-based companies from beer brewed in Palisade to coffee beans bought from the local Coffee Trader and the local artwork, decorations and items for sale, from which all proceeds are given back to the artists.

There are many other enticing qualities of the hybrid cafe-bar. The coffee is served in fun and creative mugs like a Hulk hand or a shark head, the wall color is from the official Colorado Color Packet from CDOT and the bathroom is decorated with movie posters that were filmed in Colorado and feature a description of where and what part of the movie.

I could not decide whether the coffee or the beer was better, they were both outstanding. I ordered a salted caramel latte and a butter rum latte—it was the perfect amount of sweet, just the right kinda tasty. I also ordered a brownie stout that had a wholesome dark taste. They also had a hibiscus cider, which was sweet with some floral notes. Of course, I also have to mention the absolutely delicious cosmic brownie cookie I had, which they sourced from local business Trail Cookie.

The beer is carbonated with a unique 75/25 ratio of nitrogen to CO2, which gives it finer bubbles and less foam. Basically, you get more bang for your buck. They rotate a selection of craft beers every couple of weeks, which means you constantly get to try new drinks.

They also give discounts to Colorado Mesa University (CMU) students and host a trivia night on Fridays. As the sign at the front window makes clear, they encourage you to bring outside food in and allow deliveries to be made there. There is also a shelf of books and board games patrons can freely use and even a table with outlets made specifically for homework needs. All of the seats are comfy and it is a great atmosphere to chill.

Coffee and Beer earns 5/5 stars from me, I truly do not know what more they could do to enhance the customer experience. From the inviting attitude you feel while inside to the partnerships they make with the Colorado community and the mouthwatering drinks and snacks they have, Coffee and Beer is one of a kind.
