Colorado Mesa University’s wrestling team held their 9th Annual Steak and Crab Festival this past Saturday. Hundreds of people gathered at Lincoln Park to support the team and have endless amounts of food. The festival offered something for everyone in the family.

Children could spend the afternoon in the bouncy houses available, while adults could enjoy live music and an assortment of drinks at the beer garden. Guests could sit back and enjoy the event, and members on the wrestling team could be found in neon yellow shirts working. The team grilled up the meats, served the food, cleaned up trash and wiped down tables.

“This festival is good for the community, and I’m actually having fun talking to people,” freshman wrestler Aidan Cockrell said.

Head coach Chuck Pipher was impressed with the festival this year.

“It’s a great event this year, the weather’s great, it’s one of our biggest turnouts ever, great atmosphere, great live music, everything,” Pipher said.

For freshman wrestler Tim Romero, the festival was intimidating at first and he wasn’t sure what to expect. But he quickly found that everyone was there to support the team and have a good time.

“It’s a cool experience,” Romero said. He looks forward to the future Steak and Crab Fests he’ll get to be a part of.

The community of Grand Junction not only came out to the event to support the team, but many local businesses sponsored the event. Village Inn joined the team and brought a whole tent of pie slices and other desserts.

CMU senior, Gloria Gowin, has attended this event in the past, and had great things to say about it.

“Perfect steaks, fantastic crab, great company, and a wonderful team to support,” Gowin said.
