CMU continues to lead the pack after Day 2 of A3 Performance Invite

After another day of competition, CMU continues to show no remorse towards their RMAC rivals.

The Mavericks continued to dominate in the second day of the A3 Performance Invite. 

The Mavericks men’s team had 636 cumulative points through the second day as they almost doubled the next closest school in Colorado School of Mines with 393 points. CMU’s club swimming team is third in the standings with 104 points as well in the men’s standings.   

CMU’s women’s team had 519 cumulative points as they were well ahead of Mines who had 291 points through the final event of the day.

Seven individuals from both CMU’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took first place in their respective finals, and both the men’s and women’s 400-yard medley relay teams took first in their events.   

The Mavericks sophomore diver Ammar Hassan took first in the men’s one-meter diving final, as he finished with 577.60 points to win the event. CMU took all seven available spots in the men’s diving final for the clean sweep of the event.   

The Mavericks women’s divers took the top four spots as senior Brittany Dixon led the group with 478.20 points.  

In the men’s 500-yard freestyle final, Jackson Wuthrich (4:33.03) took the top spot and Torsten Rau (4:34.12) placed second.   

Seven Mavericks finished in the top 10 of the men’s 200-yard individual medley event, as Mahmoud Elgayar (1:50.93) and Ethan Fox (1:51.50) placed top two to give CMU 37 more points.  

Pedro Terres Illescas, Lane, Elgayar and Minano’s 400-yard medley relay team (3:16.19) took first place out of the Oredigger’s hands as they bet them by .82 seconds. The Mavericks women’s relay team of Davy Brown, Sam White, Candice Rosen and Lauren White (3:47.35) took first as well.  

The lady Mavericks in the 50-yard freestyle dominated the competition as they took the top eight spots and Bret Congdon (23.91) took first over her teammate Lauren White (24.05).

CMU will look to continue to dominate and extend their huge lead even more in both the men’s and women’s divisions.   

Day three of the A3 Performance Invite is Nov. 22, with the prelims starting at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 5 p.m.
