The front desk at the University Center provides information and guidance to the students of Colorado Mesa University, and it now serves an additional purpose. This year, it became the centralized location of ticket sales for all CMU events. Students and community members alike can visit the desk to purchase all their tickets for the academic year.

Delaney Neal, a student employee at the UC front desk, claims the new system makes tickets more accessible.

“We can [sell tickets] over the phone, you can do it online by yourself, or you can just come in and buy them in person whenever you want,” Neal said.

Tickets can be picked up at will-call, emailed as e-tickets, or printed right at the front desk upon purchase. Customers can even choose their seats on a diagram for certain arts performances.

Tickets can also be purchased in a variety of packages.

“We have a range of individual tickets to season passes, like the All-Theatre Pass and the All-Music Pass,” Neal said.

The new system currently encompasses all of the Moss Performing Arts events, but syncing it up with athletics is planned. The process of establishing the new system hit a number of obstacles, including the delayed arrival of a ticket printer, and the partnership with CMU Athletics had to be postponed.

“Our goal, in the beginning, was to carry athletic tickets as well, but with the printer not being here and the rough transition, they just kept selling tickets there. Hopefully, we will partner with them so we can have all tickets here in the University Center,” Neal said.

Despite the improved universality of ticket sales, the transition posed hassles to both community members and front desk workers, particularly when learning how to navigate the new website.

“A lot of people who go to the Moss performances are seniors here in Grand Junction,” Neal said. “They were comfortable with one thing and now it’s completely different, so we get a lot of questions about that.”

The front desk workers also struggled to adjust to the new system, but they feel they’ve adapted quickly.

“Now we’re getting in the groove of things and it’s a lot easier,” Neal said.

The front desk hopes that having the full list of events available in one place will encourage people to explore events beyond the one they’d purchased tickets for.

“I think it will improve attendance because it’s one spot where everyone will go to get tickets. They can ask questions while they’re buying tickets for a different event and hopefully they will want to go,” Neal said.

A complete list of Moss Performing Arts events, with links to purchase tickets, can be found on the Colorado Mesa University website or at the University Center front desk, and they hope to add a list of athletics events and tickets in the near future.
