What are students watching this semester?
As Colorado Mesa University (CMU) students arrive on campus for a new school year, there are plenty of new summertime shows to catch up on.
Between Marvel’s “Loki” and “What If …?,” Netflix’s second season of “Outer Banks,” or the eighth season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”; there are more than enough new releases to binge as the fall semester begins!
Junior Psychology and Spanish major Alejandra Rodriguez-Ardila said, “This is like my tenth time watching [“Grey’s Anatomy”]. The reason I like it so much is because of the characters, the drama and the plot.”
Rodriguez-Ardila explains how “Grey’s Anatomy” talks about real-life problems even though it’s a fictional show.
“My favorite character is Derek Shepherd. Aside from being good-looking, he brings light to the show! I’d give it five stars. It helps that it is a still on-air show. Hopefully, it never ends!” said Rodriguez-Ardila.
Freshman Exercise Science major Rylee Taylor said, “[‘Grace and Frankie’] is so funny! It reminds me of Friends which is one of my favorite shows of all time. It just has older people which adds a whole other level of opportunities for jokes within the show.”
Taylor said that she couldn’t give the show an entire five stars, so she went with a solid four star rating of “Grace and Frankie.”
“It’s definitely binge-worthy but I’ve watched some pretty good shows. This was my first time watching this show, I’m not sure yet if I’ll watch it again. It takes a lot for me to rewatch a show,” said Taylor.
According to the online news source What’s on Netflix, this summer’s shows brought in hundreds of millions of viewership totals for Netflix. In June, “Sweet Tooth,” a DC comic book show–brought the popular streaming service 65 million viewers in a little over a month.
“[‘New Girl’] is my comfort show! It is so fun and lighthearted and I love all the characters,” said Junior Biology major Savannah Rowden.
Since its addition to Netflix, “New Girl” quickly became one of the most popular shows on the platform.
“I have seen “New Girl” so many times and I would totally watch it again. 5/5 stars!” said Rowden.
“I have been binging “Outer Banks” season two since I am late to the trend. I like the suspense, plot, and how everything changes so fast. Shows with action and a deep meaning have a better effect on me,” said Freshman Pre-Nursing major Jaymon Martin.
“Outer Banks” shot to the No.1 spot on Netflix only a few days after its debut. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” around 1.4 million people were watching “Outer Banks” at any given time over the course of the week.
“I would rate the show five stars because there are not many flaws I have seen in it yet,” said Martin.
“I have been watching “Outer Banks,” “Avatar,” and “The 100.” With “Outer Banks,” I just love the story line and it seems so fun and exciting, JJ is definitely my favorite character,” said Freshman Business major Brighten Baldwin.
“I really like the intensity of [“The 100”], I tend to watch shows that are more light hearted but this one is very intense and exciting and it keeps me on the edge of my seat,” said Baldwin.
“‘Outer Banks’ is like a six out of five stars and the others I would give a five. I would watch all of them again 100 percent”.
