From the moment one steps onto campus, their MAVcard becomes crucial to navigating Colorado Mesa University (CMU). After living on campus for almost two years, I have to say that the MAVcard is absolutely perfect in its execution.
The MAVcard is a sturdy piece of plastic that gives you entry into most places on campus and allows you to purchase food at multiple locations. There are arguments that MAVcards could be improved, though I strongly disagree.
One alleged issue is that people easily lose their MAVcard and need to spend money on a new one while borrowing a friend’s MAVcard in the meantime. It’s argued that something so important should be accessible on a mobile app, and easily replaceable without a fee. This could not be more wrong.
When it comes to the issue of losing your MAVcard, the solution is to not. As a college student switching between dangerous levels of stress and inebriation, how could you possibly lose track of something?
Because of this, it’s only fair that you suffer immensely in the case that you lose your MAVcard. In this respect, CMU does a wonderful job of reprimanding these forgetful fools with their limited MAVcard office hours, restricted food rights and a fine.
If anything, these punishments should be worsened. The MAVcard office should only operate from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. In addition, Caf employees should start prohibiting students from entry for a week if they dare ask for entry without a card.
At the very least, students who need their card fixed should have the fine raised from five dollars to fifty; whereas students who lost their card entirely should pay a hundred dollars and receive a fist to the jaw from the MAVcard employee.
Regardless, CMU has proved itself once again in its innovation and efficiency with its use of MAVcards on campus.
