And the construction goes on

Construction of North 7th Street has been delayed. The construction of 7th street began last year, with the re-pavement of South 7th Street. This prior project was also delayed, as discussed in Delays keep 7th street construction going into school year.

It looks as though the construction of 7th Street and Walnut, which was also intended to be completed before the start of the school year, is now anticipated to be finished in late September.

The construction project is on hold due to the underground electrical lines, which are overseen by Xcel Energy. Due to Xcel’s lack of resources and crew in the area and other delays of electrical projects in town, the project has been at a standstill. After the electrical portion of the project is completed, the City of Grand Junction Public Works will be able to complete the remainder of the project.

The construction on North 7th Street is a full reconstruction, which requires more time, money and invasive work than a re-pavement.

The 7th Street project is anticipated within the next three years to be renovated up to Wellington Avenue, which is near St. Mary’s.
