A holiday performance for the whole family

The production A Magical Cirque Christmas, not to be confused with Cirque du Soleil, although it has similar characteristics, kicked off its tour in Boise, Idaho on Nov. 19. This “holiday entertainment blockbuster” is making its way to Grand Junction and will be hosted at The Avalon Theatre located at 645 Main Street on December 30.

According to the Avalon Theatre’s website, the holiday-themed event includes “jaw-dropping magic, breathtaking circus acts, and the most angelic voices” which will sing Christmas carols. The cast features some of the “best talent from around the globe” including Sebastian Nicolas, Runfei Deng and Shilei Chen, Roberto Carlos, Sarah Togni, Oleksiy Mruz, Tamrat & Tomas, Anna Ostapenko, and the host Paul Dabek.

On Sept. 20 it was announced by the producers of A Magical Cirque Christmas that Duo Transcend, the husband and wife team, Tyce and Mary Nielson, and finalists on this season of America’s Got Talent, will be joining the show. In this show, the couple will have a “Duo Trapeze” and a “Duo Roller Skating” act. The couple has performed in other shows such as Circus Flic Flac, The Great American Variety Show and Cirque du Soleil.

Sebastian Nicolas is the main magician in the show. His speciality is manipulation and sleight-of-hand.

Runfei Deng and Shilei Chen, also known as the Swan Prince and his Princess, who practice the Chinese acrobatic skill, ballet on the shoulder, and combine it with western ballet dance, acrobatics and jujitsu.

Roberto Carlos, the speed juggler, has even been on Britain’s Got Talent. He is an international champion who has won the Public Award and St. Petersberg Award. He has also been featured in Cirque du Soleil productions.

Oleksiy “Alex” Mruz is considered a master of balance and precision and he “bends beyond the nature of gravity and human potential” on the Rola Bola.

Sarah Togni graduated from the Accademia D’arte Circense in Verona, Italy. She utilizes “grace, elegance and acrobatic skills” in the Cyr wheel.  

Tamrat & Tomas, The TT Boys, are known for their debut of their Icarian Games in 2010. It is an “awe-inspiring act” that includes “absolute dare and split-second timing.”

Anna Ostapenko is a contortionist who is “hypnotically beautiful” and she will “amaze and astonish with mind-boggling flexibility and poetic poise.”

These performers are led by the host Paul Dabek, an “accomplished magician, comedian and actor.”

Tickets are on sale at monumentaltix.com and the code Magical2018 can be used to purchase the tickets during this presale window.  Reserved tickets currently range from $41.75 to $64.75 per seat. There are only 24 VIP tickets, which allow patrons to sit on-stage, that are currently selling for $169.50.

On the day of the event, doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will start at 7:30.
