What is the most important thing for students to focus on in labs?

Review written materials on D2L before class (if available); in lab stay focused on the activity; keep outside interferences at bay.

What is the biggest student fault you have seen through teaching labs?

Not attending, not paying attention and not being prepared or organized. ASK QUESTIONS! Many other students have the same question but are afraid to ask.

Why is the hardest lab class in your opinion?

Microscope work. We are looking at incredibly small specimens, something we are not used to doing in life. You have to have an imagination and be able to visualize what you are seeing in the microscope versus what the “cartoon” drawings look like.

For lab tests, do you have any helpful studying tips?

Look at as many images as you can, online, in textbooks, wherever. Students should be able to look at the same material in different aspects and identify it.

What is the best way to prepare for a lab class?

Look at written materials beforehand, if possible.

Do you have any other helpful tips or advice for students involving labs?

Come into it eager to explore.  This is your opportunity to actually look at, touch, smell, and experience the things you only hear about in lecture.
