Colorado Mesa University business professor David Pumphrey, 51, will be due in court on March 10 for felony menacing, criminal mischief and domestic violence charges after his arrest in December of last year.
Pumphrey was originally scheduled for a review hearing on Jan. 27, however, Judge Thomas Deister rescheduled the hearing for over a month later.
Grand Junction Police arrested Pumphrey on the morning of Dec. 3 after he allegedly threw a scented candle warmer, punched a picture frame and threatened his ex-girlfriend with a gun during an argument.
On Dec. 20, the victim submitted a request to drop the charges in the case citing that she did not call the police following the incident and was not afraid of Pumphrey.
Judge Deister denied the victim’s request and will oversee the case review hearing on March 10 to determine if the charges against Pumphrey can be resolved without a trial.
Pumphrey will continue to teach at CMU while the university awaits the outcome of the judicial process.
