The Mavericks fall to the Rangers in the conference championship

The Mavericks had six different players register at least one point in their loss in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

The Mavericks fall 6-15 to the Rangers in their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship.  

Regis University (RU) won their fourth RMAC Tournament Championship and have now won two consecutive tournament championships. Kyleigh Peoples scored a game-high six points as she scored four goals and contributed two assists in the contest.  

Freshman attacker Lauren Wick was the Mavericks leading scorer with two goals. Wick was one of the four CMU players to be named to the All-RMAC Tournament Team.

Freshman attacker Regan Wentz answered with a goal of her own to score the Maverick’s first goal of the gameWick kept the Mavericks offense rolling as she scored her 26 goal of the season on a free position opportunity.  

RU went on another fourgoal run to give themselves a six-point lead with 7:41 left in the first half.  

Freshman midfielder Peyton Ivey ended the Rangers run as she caught a pass from freshman attacker Brianna Anderson to fire a shot past Elle Crawford on a man-up opportunity. Peoples and sophomore midfielder Kiley Davis traded goals to end the first half as the Mavericks went into the halftime break down 4-9.  

Peoples scored the first goal of the second half as she caught a pass from Lily Ferguson to fire a shot past freshman goalie Adelaine Charlsen. Wick answered with a goal of her own on a free-position opportunity to bring the Mavericks back within five points early in the second half.  

Freshman attacker Melanie Evans started to swing the momentum of the game as she scored on a man-up, free position opportunity. The Rangers tightened their defense up after Evans and they didn’t allow another goal in the game.  

RU’s offense kicked into gear as well as they scored five goals to put the nail in the coffin and end as RMAC Tournament Champions.  

The Mavericks finished the game with a 15 to eight advantage in the draw control circle the contest. CMU had six different players register at least a point against the Rangers. 

The Rangers ended the game with a 33 to 21 ground ball advantage 

Junior midfielder Ashton Whittle, Davis, Wick and Charlsen were the All-RMAC Tournament Team selections from CMU.  

CMU’s season ends with an 8-5 record, and they made it to the RMAC Tournament Championship for the first time in program history in 2021.
