It came down to the final minutes once again for the Colorado Mesa University women’s soccer team. This time, the hero was Halie Bergeron who scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute to give the Mavericks the 1-0 win over the UCCS Mountain Lions. Bergeron was able to get past her defender and beat the UCCS keeper one on one to get the goal.
CMU was outshot in the game 22-11, and 6-4 in shots on goal. But the Mavericks were the ones who took the shot that counted. The Mountain Lions also finished with more corner kicks on the day with nine. CMU finished with just two.
Lauren Thompson finished the game with the most shots for the Mavericks with three. Ryanne Parker and Bergeron were right behind her with two shots apiece.
Emily Signorio was in goal for the second consecutive game for the Mavericks. Signorio finished with six saves on the day and zero goals allowed. This was her second straight clean sheet for the Mavericks. Signorio now has a 2-1 record for the season.
With the victory, CMU now sits at 5-3 on the year and 2-1 in the conference. CMU will now come home for four straight conference games starting with Regis University on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Walker Field.
