The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team spiked the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans, 5-0, on Monday. The match was the Mavs’ first home game in the history of the program.
“It was really good,” CMU beach volleyball player MacKenzie Edwards said. “My partner, Hattie [Gianinetti] and I were able to really pull it out in the end. We struggled a little bit in the beginning of the season and we just really worked together at the end which was really nice.”
Edwards and Hattie, at no. 2, easily won their match, 21-10, 21-4.
The Mavs no. 1 overall team of Erin Perez and Megan Gianinetti had a harder time in their match. After being down in the first set, Perez and Megan pulled towards the end and won 21-18. The teammates then found themselves down again in the second set, but they moved past the Spartans and won 21-17.
At no. 3, Kricket Adleman and Hana Peterman won 21-8, 21-11. Then at no. 4 Samantha Ritter and Katie Scherr won 21-10, 21-13.
Taylor Woods and Natalee Todd at no. 5 easily won their first set, 21-5. Woods and Todd then put away the Spartans, 21-12, in the second set.
The Mavs never lost a set on the day. After winning their first home game CMU finishes the season with a 5-10 record.
