The Colorado Capitol Conference has returned and is now accepting applications for the 2018 event. This event is meant to give leaders and college students an opportunity to increase their knowledge of leadership and the United States government.
“The Capitol Conference is designed to give participants an enhanced understanding of the federal legislative process, as well as how to positively effect public policy,” according to the Colorado Mesa University website.
The conference takes place at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. and participants are given the opportunity to see many areas of the Capital and other major government buildings in addition to meeting many United States leaders in Washington.
While the agenda for 2018 has not been set, in past years attendees have heard from and met many influential people, including over a dozen U.S. Congressmen and women, the majority and minority leaders, several Supreme Court justices, executive secretaries, and much more governmental, media and business leaders.
“The Capitol Conference is a great opportunity to get an inside look at bipartisanship in Washington. Being in such a historic place is an amazing opportunity as a young leader to feel like change can be made. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to attend and bring my knowledge back to the CMU community,” Vice President of the Student Body Gabby Gile, an attendee of the 2017 conference, said.
The conference is sponsored by CMU, the University of Colorado and Colorado State University. CMU takes a large role in the arrangement of this event and in many past conferences our own President Foster has been a speaker.
This year the conference will be held June 12-14.

The registration cost, according to CMU, not including airfare and lodging, will be $375 for applicants selected to attend.
One hundred applicants from across the state and from different backgrounds will be selected to attend the event. Applications are open now and will close March 21st. According to CMU’s website, applications will be reviewed jointly by U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, CMU, University of Colorado and Colorado State University.
All students and young leaders are encouraged to apply, and no majors or years are more preferred.
“I am a political science major, so this experience was particularly salient. However, given the range of speakers and Coloradans that participate in this event, any CMU student could benefit from attending,” Gile said.
Students interested in applying or learning more should visit CMU’s main website.
