Summer is the time when you don’t have to worry about class work. Summer is the time to have fun, travel, let loose, challenge yourself and get started on dreams that you’ve been setting aside for the right moment.
Now is that moment.
Most of you would rather wait for the perfect moment to travel or get started tackling your dreams. The summer will be the time for you to go out and put in the work that is required to become the person you are looking to become.
Why wait?
Sure, summer is the time to relax and it very well should be. Yet what happens if this is your last summer in college? You are going to have to find a job, find a career path and come to the realization that it is time to grow-up into the adult that you want to be.
“You have to make as much moola as you can. Hang out with your friends as many times as you can before they go back to college. You have to get outside go camping and do fun stuff you normally don’t do.” Colorado Mesa University student Reece Reedy said.
You have to realize how lucky each and every single one of you reading this article is. You had one in a trillion chance of becoming a human beginning yet you don’t take full advantage of that opportunity.
Why?
If getting high each night after not having a productive day makes you happy, for a short period of time, then by all means continue doing what you are doing. If going out and getting wasted every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday over the summer makes you happy, you don’t have to change.
You should want more than that, though.
If you are someone that wants to build and show the world what you have to offer, then the summer is the perfect time to start. Well, technically now is.
Don’t take what you are reading as a plea that you shouldn’t have fun during the summer. You should. You should go on that river float with your friends. You should go on that road trip with your best friend. You should spend time with your family. You should get drunk and high (if you legally can). You should go on that 10-day backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon.
“I make the most out of my summer by spending as much time outside that I can. Hanging out with some friends and enjoying myself,” CMU student Jake Condill said.
You still need to live your life because you could go on a Monday.
Summertime could also be the best time for you to create a new habit, after you have had all of the fun you plan on having, of course.
Research has been done with hundreds of participants showing on average how long it takes for people to create a new habit. Studies by The One Thing have said its take around 66 days to create a new habit. This makes summer the ideal time for change.
You have around 12 weeks off, which is 84 days, more than enough to create a new habit that could change your life. What’s stopping you?
The summer is the ideal time to create something with your life. Friends that you might not see over the summer will realize when you come back how much you have changed by implementing small habits.
Your new habit doesn’t have to be big at first. If you are looking to get into shape, you can start by going to the gym for only ten minutes a day until you realize that you can stay for an hour. If you are looking to read more, you could start by reading five pages a day, and by the end of the 66 days, you could be reading a book a day.
The summer could also be the time for you to start a business. Build a brand. Create artwork for thousands to see. Go to concerts. Start a YouTube Channel. Start a Podcast. Invent a new product. Create a TV series. Make a movie. The possibilities are endless.
You can do whatever you want with your life; what makes you happy can become your career. Starting is the hardest part for anyone. This summer, remember to go out and experience the world to the fullest; you will see your way of life change.
