Maverick women’s golf finished in second place at its annual spring invitational last week. The Redlands golf course was host to 12 teams, 11 conference members and one non-conference opponent in Cal State Monterey Bay.
CSMB won the tournament with Blake Haverty scoring two over par to lead all competitors. The leading Maverick in the tournament was Nicole Rooney, who tied for third place overall with six over par.
In the first round of the tournament Rooney shot one over par, her lowest and best score of the season by 10 strokes. She was one under par on the par five holes and birdied four times on the course.
Her performance at the Redlands gave her RMAC conference player of the week.
Ashlyn Kirschner also had a strong performance, going three under par on all par three holes, and finished tied for ninth place with her teammates Hannah More and Naomi Yamada with a score of nine over.
Finishing right behind at thirteenth place outright was Taylor Walters at 10 over. The rest of the Maverick team placed as follows: Sydney Gunn tied for fifteenth at 12 over, Megan Liborio tied for eighteenth at 13 over, Randi Kim tied for twenty-third at 18 over, Heather Kroll tied for twenty-eighth at 20 over, Sydni Rose tied for thirty-sixth at 26 over and Brianna Medrano tied for forty-sixth at 34 over.
CMU looks to carry this momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season, with the conference championships on the horizon.
Arizona’s Ocotillo Golf Course will host the RMAC championships in Chandler, the week of April 24-25.
