The men’s and women’s tennis teams both won on Saturday against CSU Pueblo. The men’s and women’s team swept the doubles matches setting up for the overall win. The men’s tennis team has tied for conference champions with Metro State University in regular season play. CMU men’s tennis (5-1 in conference) has not had a regular season championship title in over 10 years.
According to Coach MacDonald the the doubles play has improved every match.
“[We are] getting better at knowing to to play offensive and defensive,” MacDonald said on the players’ improvement this season.
MacDonald went on to say it may be a tough postseason because the men may be playing Metro in the first round. Winning the RMAC tournament will set up the team for a large bid for the south central tournament.
Katie and Kristin Kirby won their individual matches and as a doubles team for the women’s team. The sisters started the morning with an 8-2 win against against Pueblo’s duo. Katie then defeated Pueblo in singles play. The women’s tennis team earned 2nd place in regular season play.
CMU’s #1 men’s double team Cody Freischlag and Nick Farmen won 8-3 against Pueblo’s Wade and Mould. The team victories were secured well before the final serves because of the wins in doubles play. The tennis teams go to Denver next for the RMAC tournament.
