The Colorado Mesa Women’s Golf team traveled to Goodyear, Ariz. to end their long road trip in the Mustang Intercollegiate hosted by Western New Mexico.
The Mavericks stayed steady throughout the entire tournament. Sophomore Ashlynn Kirschner led the way for the Mavericks as she placed 34th overall, which was highest individual finish of the team. Kirshner shot a 75 on the first round on Monday and a 78 on Tuesday giving her a total score of 153 over the entire invite. Kirshner will look to capitalize at the Maverick Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday as she finished sixth overall last year.
Colorado Mesa ended the first day shooting 316, which gave them their 13th place finish by the end of Monday.
Senior Taylor Walters recently led the Mavericks to a ninth-place finish at the West Texas A&M invite in Tucson, Ariz., and she carried that same momentum to be the second golfer for the Mavericks in the Mustang Intercollegiate.
Walters finished 48th overall after shooting a 80 on the first day and carded a 76 on the second day, where she ended her week by with a couple birdies. Walters shot a 156 overall giving her a 12 over par.
Fifth-best in the nation, California Baptist, won the entire invite by carding a 577 total score, which gave them one over par finish.
Johany Rivera from St. Edwards University won the individual trophy with a three under par and a total score of 141.
The Mavericks stayed in 13th place after the first day and shot a 309 on the second day giving them a total score of 625.
Colorado Mesa will host the annual Maverick Spring Invitational on April 17-18 at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa. The Mavericks won the entire invitational last year. Where they overcame nine other teams to take home first place honors.
