International award-winning musician Brian Krinke is having a piano and violin recital in the Asteria theater on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The recital is titled “Storytelling in Music,” and Krinke brought in pieces that tell a story within themselves but are also a part of his personal story.
“We have the one piece where… the violin is essentially depicting the lines of the story that are then being read,” Krinke said. He chose them because the pieces communicate a story that he hopes will connect him with the audience.
“Each piece has a different, meaningful, connection to my life,” Krinke said. “[There are] pieces that my mother used to play, one piece that my first violin teacher used to play, and [one piece] where the narrator was a meaningful, mother figure to me.”
From a young age, the CMU assistant professor of music was immersed in music. His mother was a piano teacher and placed him in lessons as a child. Krinki has won prizes from the Stravinsky Award International Competition and the Young Keyboard Artists Association International Competition. Krinke is also a composer and his works have been performed in venues in NYC, Princeton University and CMU.
He moved to Grand Junction eight years ago to be a violin and viola instructor at CMU and has since performed as the Concertmaster of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.
As an experienced player and performer, Krinke hopes his recital is moving and impactful. Students with a MavCard will be able to attend the performance for free.
