Gallup recently approached Colorado Mesa University and asked if they could conduct a poll amongst some of our students.
“CMU’s information research staff reviewed the questionnaire to determine that it was acceptable and followed the student confidentiality requirements, and then said ‘you bet you can access our students,’” Dana Nunn, CMU’s director of media relations, said.
The poll consisted of a little over 100 questions concerning student engagement. It was a survey gathering information about CMU students and their experiences at the university. The survey was estimated to take approximately 10 minutes to complete.
The questions within the survey ranged from basic demographic questions to more specific ones. Examples of these included “How helpful has your academic advisor been in the following areas?” and “If you had to do college over again, would you choose the same major?”
They also asked questions like if the student lived on or off campus and if they felt their education is preparing you for the workforce. The majority of questions were asked on a five-point scale.
Sophomore Megan Limberg was one of the students selected for this survey. She completed it in its entirety, giving her input about CMU and her thoughts about the education she has received so far.
She thought the survey seemed overlong, but hoped it was worth her time. Overall, she would describe her experience at CMU as great.
“My experience at CMU has been really good,” Limberg said. “I’ve had a lot of fun and met a lot of great people, and I love my academic program because the professors are really devoted to the students and they want students to learn something. My favorite part of this university is the diversity and also the athletic training program.”
There are only a few things she would change, including the price of campus housing and some of the required general education courses.
Gallup conducted this anonymous poll across a variety of institutions. Once Gallup has completed this poll, they will share the results with each individual school.
No university will be able to see individual results (as this remains confidential), but CMU will be able to see what students said and how that compares to students at other institutions.
Gallup is an organization that conducts large polls and surveys to analyze certain behaviors and attitudes of employees, customers, students and other citizens within different organizations.
