The Mavericks fell 8-15 in their second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship to the Rangers.
Freshman midfielder Ali Bryant and redshirt sophomore attacker Melanie Evans both scored three points in the game which was a team-high. Bryant scored one goal and dished out two assists in the game. Evans recorded two goals and one assist.
Redshirt senior goalie Lula Mitchell and sophomore goalie Adelaine Charlsen combined to make 13 saves in the game. Mitchell made seven saves against Regis University (RU) and Charlsen made six saves in the game.
Redshirt sophomore midfielder Taylor Jakeman scored the first goal of the game with 12:49 left in the first quarter. The Rangers came back with a goal from Kyleigh Peoples and Gabby Rothermund came back with two goals in a minute to quickly put RU up by one goal.
Peoples scored two more goals in the first quarter to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead going into the second quarter. She got things going for RU in the second quarter as well netting her fourth goal of the game with 14:01 left in the first half.
The Rangers scored two more goals which were their seventh unanswered goal with 6:33 left in the second quarter. Redshirt junior midfielder Ashton Whittle stopped the Ranger’s seven-goal run with 5:11 left in the second quarter to bring CMU within five goals.
RU scored three more goals in the second quarter to take a 10-2 lead into the halftime break.
The Rangers opened the third quarter with goals from Bailey Truex and two goals from Alexis Parker to extend their lead to 13-2. Evans scored her first goal of the game with 4:04 left in the third quarter as she ran through multiple defenders to bury a shot in the back of the net.
Bryant scored the final goal of the third quarter with 1:45 left in the third quarter to bring the score to 4-13.
Rothermund got the scoring started in the fourth quarter with 13:37 left in the game to put The Rangers up by 10 goals. Evans came back with a goal of her own as she got under her defender to curl the crease and finish with a low shot to bring the Mavericks within nine goals.
Redshirt sophomore attacker Regan Wentz scored on a man-up opportunity and free-position shot to cut the Maverick’s deficit to 6-14. Jakeman and freshman midfielder Emme Rezoski scored the final two goals of the game for the Mavericks with 34 seconds left in the game. Truex scored the final goal of the game for the Rangers with seven seconds remaining in the game.
Jakeman, Wentz, Whittle and Rezoski were the other Mavericks to register a point in the game. Jakeman scored two goals on five shots in the game. Rezoski, Wentz and Whittle all scored one goal in the game.
CMU did not get into the NCAA Tournament as they ended the season with a 13-6 overall record and a 10-2 conference record.
