On Tuesday, Feb. 14, Good Vibes Grand Valley will launch its first event. The event allows anyone to join, pledging to bring more positivity to yourself as well as those around you.
Good Vibes will last through Feb. 27. Hilltop Wellness Coordinator Rebecca Weitzel created the event. Weitzel was inspired to create the program to help the community’s well-being and positivity as a whole.
“At Hilltop, we have had a really successful wellness program for the past six years, and last year I started up a community group that invited different organizations that care about employee wellness to come together,” Weitzel said. “Seeing this group and how enthusiastic they’ve been, my mind just started percolating on an idea of doing a community wide challenge.”
Also, Weitzel explained the program was inspired by recent harsh situations taking place, whether it is in the community or with the entire nation.
“There has been a lot of hard things that we’ve been dealing with as a community, so that’s when the focus of this idea became something around positivity,” Weitzel said. “Something we can all rally around as a community.”
The pledge involves three steps to do every day, which includes offering one sincere compliment, giving two thank-yous and writing down three things for which you are thankful. On top of these tasks, there will also be “Daily Dare N’ Shares” which are specific, optional tasks to do in addition to the pledge.
The cost is only two dollars to participate in this event, and with it comes a bracelet as well as a pledge card. If the participants do choose to do the daily dares, they can win potential prizes.
“If they share their dare they will go into an automatic drawing for two $25 Downtown Grand Junction gift cards each day,” Weitzel said.
Throughout the entire event, there will also be inspirational emails sent out to the participants.
At the end of the 14 days, there will be final prizes for those that tracked their activity throughout the event.
Adrianna Garcia, a Colorado Mesa University student, expressed her interest in the program.
“More positivity in the world has never been a bad thing,” Garcia said. “I think especially right now. In general, we have a lot of negativity going around. That idea about being able to celebrate all this positivity is really awesome.”
According to Hilltop’s website, taking part in this pledge can have benefits to your physical and emotional health, such as improving sleep and mood. The site can be used to sign up and receive more information on how this will impact a person’s well-being.
