College football is back in Division One, but now, Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Football will officially be playing this fall.
The Mavericks kick off their season with their home opener against Chadron State University on Oct. 10 at noon. CMU hosts Western Colorado University in week four for their final home game that is currently scheduled.
CMU Football currently has five games scheduled, three home games and two away games. They are looking to add a sixth game in Grand Junction.
“We are not going to play another game outside of Grand Junction, so if you know anybody looking for a game tell them they got to come to Grand Junction,” CMU Head Coach, Tremaine Jackson said. “We have two away games, that’s it. There is some interest from other schools to come here to Grand Junction and play.”
The first away game for the Mavericks will be against Black Hills State University in week two. They head to Canyon, Texas in their final game of the season to play West Texas A&M University.
CMU’s first three games all happen on weekends that are one after the other, but their final two games are spaced a week apart from their others.
“Our kids know, it’s our goal to go whatever and 0, and I say whatever and 0 because it started at four games, now it’s five, we can look up at the end of the week and it could be six or seven. So, whatever they put on our schedule, it’s our job to play that one-by-one and win those,” Jackson said.
The Mavericks host back-to-back home games in weeks three and four. South Dakota School of Mines and Technology comes to town before the Mavericks play their rival Western Colorado University on Nov. 7.
The Mountaineer game doesn’t have a designated time currently so refer to the CMU Athletics website for that information later.
