Three time Academy Award winner “Fiddler on the Roof,” is making its way to Colorado Mesa University (CMU).
The musical will open in the Robinson Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 27, and will play through the weekend, as well as the following weekend (March 5-7).
“Fiddler on the Roof” marks the first production that will allow CMU students in for free. Senior (60+) tickets cost $18, Adult tickets cost $22, non-CMU students with an ID and youth cost $8.
Student Isaiah Gundermann Graham is playing the part of Motel. “The cast is the largest it has been in recent years, and we have all come together to develop a close community that translates perfectly onto the stage,” he said.
“Fiddler on the Roof” gives life to the story of Tevye, a poor Jewish dairy farmer in antisemitic Russia. The story follows Tevye attempting to ingrain traditions into his daughters whilst playing cupid. It illustrates the familial struggles and how historically communities would band together in times of need.
CMU senior Brooklyn Buhre is playing the part of Shaidel, Montel’s mother. “You may not know if you like theatre, but you never know unless you go,” she said.
The musical will be accompanied by a live orchestra. There will also be concessions sold during intermission and the sales go towards funding the Mesa Thespian Society’s trip to New York. The New York trip is able to provide CMU’s future actors and actresses with workshops, networking with professionals and a larger look at how New York may fit into their future.
