The Mavericks are no strangers to going into overtime this season and they would see another game go into overtime on Sunday.
The Colorado Mesa University soccer team travelled to Durango after a win in Alamosa on Friday afternoon. The two teams got together for what would be Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) last regular season road game. The game went into overtime which the Mavericks are very familiar with going 1-2 in OT this year before seeing another overtime loss 3-2 against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks.
CMU played catch up since the very beginning of the game as Fort Lewis scored as fast as 46 seconds into this game. The shot was off of a penalty kick by Bailey Webster.
Midfielder Alexis Allard then put the Mavericks on the board 48 minutes after the penalty kick by Webster. Allard found the pass delivered by fellow senior Zoe Peterson for her fourth goal of the season. Peterson now has two assists on the season.
Allard would find the goal again allowing CMU to have the lead going into the final ten minutes of the game. Bobbie Golik passed the ball to Allard and the goal would give them a 2-1 lead.
Fort Lewis responded in a big way by tying the game up at two apiece when Courtney Wambolt found a pass from Britany Johnson in with 48 seconds left in the game. Fort Lewis would not stop their they then six minutes later found the net again to secure the win. Ashley Strader made the game winning shot with an assist from Wambolt.
Even though CMU accumulated their sixth loss of the season, the team still continues to show growth and fight. CMU took six shots at the goal out of the eleven that they took against Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks took five shots at the goal of their eight total.
Going into the final weekend of the regular season the Mavericks will be back at Walker Field for the final time of the 2019 season and they will face opponents in Dixie State and Westminster starting on Nov.1
