The 2019-20 Poets & Writers Reading Series kicks off Thursday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kiln Coffee Bar at 326 Main St. This coming Thursday marks the 12th annual Poets & Writers Reading Series, and will feature Terry Chase, Luis Lopez, Maureen Neal and William Wright.
According to the series’ founding director Professor John Nizalowski, the purpose of the event is to “bring the creative writing talents of CMU’s faculty and staff to the Grand Valley community.”
There are four readings each year, where the majority of the participating authors have a background in language, literature or mass communications.
However, there are authors from the nursing department and even staff from the Tomlinson Library who will be featured in this year’s event. According to Nizalowski, the events generally have between 15-20 people who attend, however, there have been years where the turnout exceeds fifty.
“I believe it is very important to make connections between CMU’s creative community and the general public,” Nizalowski said in an email statement to the Criterion.
