Incoming and returning students can enhance their college experience by getting to know a few important individuals on campus. Whether it’s finding help for difficult issues students face or finding ways to have fun and get involved, the following individuals are essential to know.
President Foster
Though it may not be easy for Colorado Mesa University President Tim Foster to get to know each of the approximately 11,000 students attending CMU, it doesn’t stop him from trying. More than once Foster has said the best thing about CMU is the students and he does his best to ensure a good experience for them.
Foster can be found on the second story of Lowell Heiny Hall, just south of the University Center. As the president of an ever-growing university, Foster is a busy man, so he isn’t available to students at all times of the day. However, his office staff is friendly and will happily schedule a time to meet if his open office hours don’t work for a meeting to discuss issues.
For more informal settings, Foster can regularly be seen walking around CMU. Even when busy, the president is always ready with a smile and a wave to his students.
VP Marshal
Vice President of Student Services John Marshall is located in the bottom floor of Lowell Heiny Hall. Also a busy man, Marshall isn’t likely to be available on a whim. Just like Foster, however, Marshall has office hours and a friendly staff that will schedule an appointment if one is needed.
Marshall cares deeply about the students at CMU and will work to make sure any problems they face are addressed as fairly as possible. Even if Marshall isn’t able to resolve a problem himself, he will point students in the right direction.
Shanae Mundee
Director of Student Life Shanae Mundee is located inside Student Life on the second floor of the University Center. As the name implies, anything that pertains to the campus life experience falls under Mundee. She’s essential to know for all students wishing to get involved on campus.
Julie Stump
Located in an office adjacent to Mundee, Stump aids in making sure students have every opportunity to be involved on and around campus. Always ready with a smile and advice, Stump can help make sure a student’s experience at CMU is the best possible.
ASG President and VP
Associated Student Government President Beau Flores and Vice President Angel Bautista were elected by students to represent them at the highest level. Unlike high school government, ASG is big business, controlling the allocation of student fees for organizations, some of which have budgets over $100,000.
Flores and Bautista may sit in positions of power, but they have bettering students and CMU as their focus. Both elected officials will go out of their way to help any student in need. Any student that wishes to have a problem addressed or wants to increase their involvement would be well-served to enter their office in Student Life.
Amanda Herron
Every year, some of the incoming students are military veterans. For those individuals, Herron is an essential person to know. Located on the top floor of Lowell Heiny, Herron provides essential veteran services. Whether it is fixing issues with scheduling or finances, there is little Herron can’t solve. She can also direct veterans to peers that will aid in ensuring a successful education.
There are many wonderful individuals at CMU that can help make the college experience something to cherish, so this list is far from all-encompassing. However, the individuals listed can point a student toward everyone else they should know. Meet all of them and make the Maverick experience amazing and successful.
