Dr. Russ Walker will be honored and memorialized through a riparian restoration workday on Saturday, April 20. The late professor’s family, friends and former students will plant and cage cottonwood trees, remove invasive shrubs, build brush piles and more to improve the habitat in the Audubon Nature Preserve.
Walker was a former Professor of Environmental Sciences at Colorado Mesa University (CMU) and head of the physical and environmental sciences department. He was also a board member in the Colorado West Land Trust and enjoyed and protected the environment.
Walker made his mark in the field of environmental science and conservation through the lives of the many people he interacted with daily. He was a mentor who was motivated by a vision for a better world.
In addition, a new scholarship will honor Walker’s legacy. The Russ Walker Scholarship Fund was established by the CMU Foundation.
Donations can be made by contacting Rick Adleman, the CMU Foundation Associate Director of Development at (970) 248-1871 or [email protected]. Contributions can also be made online at supportingcmu.com/give/other via the Russ Walker Scholarship Fund.
