The Associated Student Government’s (ASG) meeting on Mar. 27 involved a discussion with Vice President of Student Services John Marshall. The discussion was in reference to an increase in student fees to support the Student Wellness Center. It would consist of a $2 increase per 30 credit hours. The cost of the co-pay for students to be seen would remain the same.
As the number of students enrolling at Colorado Mesa University increases, the number of services offered is also increasing. The Student Wellness Center may also need to have more space, especially during the peak months of October and April. The fee increase would be used to aid in increasing the space available for use as well as the increase in the services offered to students.
The Vocal Performing Group presented their request before the Senate body. They are requesting funding for gas and hotel for their trip to Fort Collins. There will be 20 students in attendance for this trip. The senators voted to approve the request in the amount of $1,080.
The next order of business was in reference to the National Leadership Conference being held in Washington D.C. ASG sponsors two students to attend and CMU sponsors four students. The sponsorship is in the form of a scholarship awarded to attend the trip. This gives six CMU students the opportunity to see how leadership works in political environments. After a vote was taken, senators approved the amount of $2,887 to be allocated for the scholarship for the two students that the ASG is sponsoring.
