Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Career Services hosted the Career Connections Job Fair on Mar. 7 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The event took place in CMU’s Meyer Ballroom, with additional tables spilling into other areas of the University Center second floor.
The fair was a free event, open to current CMU students, CMU alumni, and community members seeking employment or a career change. It also gave local and national organizations an opportunity to recruit and spread awareness of their companies.

“Students can learn about and apply for jobs, internships, and career opportunities at this event,” Alicia Dembowski Coordinator of Career Services at CMU said. “It’s a great platform for students at any level to start planning their next steps, whether that be a summer gig, a fall internship, or their first professional job.”
Tables offered job-seekers information, networking and merchandise. The organizations represented included military branches, law enforcement, government, media and recreational industries. Local employers included the City of Grand Junction, KREX 5 News, West Star Aviation and Hilltop.
“The Spring Career Connections Job Fair is held annually in March,” Dembowski said. “This event has taken place at CMU for many years, and this years’ event was one of the largest in our history with nearly 100 companies and organizations present.”

The event was marketed by community media to help spread awareness to all job-seekers both on and off campus.
“I think the joint effort between CMU Career Services and the sponsors of this event Mesa County Workforce Center, The Daily Sentinel, 1100 KNZZ News Radio, and News Channel 5 really makes it unique,” Dembowski said. “It’s a joint effort in the valley to support and grow our workforce.”
Career Services offers students’ resources to make a smooth transition from college to a career. Current CMU students can attend resume and cover letter workshops, receive assistance in job hunting, attend a large job fair event each semester and build marketable skills that can help them succeed after graduation.
“This event has a great reputation on and off-campus, and it has grown over the last few years,” Dembowski said. “We hope to continue building those positive relationships with companies and organizations, and we always hope for a great student turnout at the fair.”
