This past weekend Colorado Mesa University’s Dance program put on ENDS: Fall dance concert. It was breathtaking, interesting and creative. I didn’t really expect for the dance program to out do themselves like they did but it was outstanding.
Each performance was emotional in different ways. Some of the modern dance pieces were sad and tear jerkers. The hip-hop performances were engaging. They got the crowd involved. We were whistling and screaming “Ow! Ow!” as these dancers broke it down. I have never been to a performance like this one.
Each piece covered different ideas and concepts, like a mother’s suicide, falling in love and community involvement. Each of the concepts are what people go through everyday and to bring it into movement is so creative.
Another performance brought up the topic of marriage, love and equality. It was so cool to see a performance like this because it expanded my view on life. It was powerful and moving. I loved it so much because the story just grew and grew and finally they accepted who they were and walked off stage holding their heads together.
I never thought I would be so interested in a dance performance but my mind has been blown. I was devastated when the acts were over. Bravo! To all the choreographers, guest artists, dancers and backstage for putting on such a unique performance. I will continue to go to these shows, even after I graduate in two weeks.
If you want to expand your creative mind, head to a future CMU dance performance.
