In the Criterion article from April titled “Foster looks internally for new vice president,” it was said that Vice President of Academic Affairs Cynthia Pemberton was leaving.
Since then, President Foster appointed former head of the English, Literature and Mass Communication department, Kurt Haas, earlier this fall.
According to Haas, he has been assistant to the vice president of academic affairs since 2015, working very closely with Pemberton. He has been with the CMU faculty since 1999.
As a result of working very closely with Pemberton in the past, Haas was chosen for this position in order to keep a certain continuity within the office of academic affairs. “We are in the get smarter business,” Haas said. “The better the faculty and student culture, the more exciting CMU is.”
