As students begin to get into the rhythm of the school year, they may find themselves growing weary of eating the same food day in and day out. Add to this the strain students tend to feel in their wallets and it might seem that there is no choice but to accept culinary monotony. Fortunately, however, there are several budget friendly eating options available, and they are even within walking distance of or are on the campus.
Flat Top Grill: The Flat Top Grill serves a wide variety of basic food staples, including but not limited to: sandwiches, burgers, quesadillas, and chicken tenders. Located within the University Center, it is within easy walking distance of classes. Perhaps best of all, the Flat Top Grill accepts MavMoney and meal transfers.
Domino’s: As is widely known, pizza is an essential part of any college student’s diet. Domino’s is primarily known for their budget-friendly pizza but they also serve sandwiches and other fare for those seeking more variety. Located reasonably close to campus, Domino’s is a great option if one seeks a cheesy comfort food to silence one’s hunger.
Mountain Grind Coffee: Although not a place one might think to go for a full meal, Mountain Grind Coffee does serve paninis and salads in addition to a wide variety of pastries, coffee and other beverages. This makes it ideal for picking up a quick breakfast on the way to class. Or, if in search of something to satisfy a sweet tooth, Mountain Grind Coffee even carries cake pops. While not the cheapest of these options, Mountain Grind Coffee does accept MavMoney, making it quite attractive to the cash-strapped college student in desperate need of caffeine.

Subway: There are actually two Subways within walking distance of the Colorado Mesa University campus. This wide-reaching restaurant chain is known for its highly customizable sandwiches. This customization makes it ideal for a money-strapped consumer, allowing one to build a meal to fit one’s budget. Although Subway does not accept Mavcards or MavMoney, it is still friendly to the wallet.
Even though it may seem impossible at times to eat out on a budget, it really is quite possible. Not even gas money is necessary. Students on the hunt for budget-friendly meals should also keep an eye out for coupons and other deals. So don’t get caught eating the same old thing in the dining hall every day for the duration of this school year. Remember, variety is the spice of life.
