Associated Student Government (ASG) President Beau Flores sent announced via email that he had signed his second executive order on July 27. Executive Order (EO)18-02 mandates that one town hall meeting is held each semester. The order supersedes EO 17-01, signed by former ASG President Ben Linzey, which mandated two meetings.
Flores explained that he saw the good intentions of EO 17-01, but didn’t see it executed. The EO 18-02 signing statement suggested that holding two town hall meetings might have been too difficult to orchestrate, so Flores reduced the frequency.
“We need to fully be committing into something like this so I wanted to start off with having one per semester,” Flores said in the signing statement. “The reason for these meetings are to give students the opportunity to voice their personal opinions, questions, or concerns. It is our job as student leaders to have answers for them as well as to inform them on where their student fees are allocated and the impact it makes on this campus.”
EO 18-02 also changes how appointments are discussed within the senate. Previously, appointees were not required to leave to the room while their appointment was being discussed. EO 18-02 requires the appointees to leave the room.
Flores’ statement said the change would allow senators to “have the opportunity to voice who they think will correctly and justly serve on the student senate.”
Regarding the changes made in EO 18-02 and his previously signed EO 18-01, Flores said, “I know this is a lot but I really want to clean house before school starts.”
