Track and field for Colorado Mesa University (CMU) traveled to Boulder, Colo. this weekend for the CU Open Invitational. It began on Thursday and went through Saturday. With many Colorado schools attending this invitational, the men’s team landed 12th with a total of 17 points. The women ended at 11th with 19 points.
There were two first-place winners from CMU. In the pole vault, Nolan Ellis took first and in the 5000-meter race, Lauren Lipski took first.
There were some other great placings by CMU athletes. Nathan Oglesby took eighth in the 800-meter race. Mako Watanabe took eighth and Blake Graf took tenth in the 5000-meter men’s race.
Spencer Jahr also placed in the pole vault at eleventh. In the long jump for men, Vernon Jackson took sixth, and Peter Greco took twelfth in the triple jump. In the weight throw, CMU had a few place in the top 25: this included Marshall Mcknown, Dante Dennison, Nicholas Mynes and Angel Bautista.
For the women of CMU track and field, Jill Payne took 11th in the 200-meter race. Abby Oglesby took 16th and Rocio Roman ended 18th in the 800-meter race. Mekayla Winchester took 4th in the 60-meter hurdles. Sarah Cerrone landed 6th along with three other athletes in the high jump. They all jumped 5’3.25”.
Gabriella Casey landed 11th in the pole vault for CMU. Ericka White ended 16th in the long jump with other CMU athlete Sarah Edmondson landing 18th. Caitlin Torgerson placed 15th in the Triple Jump for CMU and Breanna Royer landed 18th for CMU on Shot Put.
In the 4×400 meter relays, CMU took 8th for both the men and women teams. The men relay team had a time of 3.27:27 and the women had 4:06.44.
With a couple first place and overall in the top ten of teams, CMU track and field has high hopes for the season.
