A swipe left for GJ’s ‘Tinder’ scene

Dating on college campuses is like trying to find a dime in an ocean of nickels, except each nickel is deceptively sexy and takes too many Instagram selfies. You take the nickels on bad dates, and they don’t laugh at any of your jokes. Also, most nickels enjoy Family Guy and Lil Wayne when they’re not binge-watching Duck Dynasty.

Obviously, you’re feeling short-changed.

Luckily, Tinder provides an efficient way to sort out the nickels in search of your dime.

Tinder is a dating app that keeps things simple: if you don’t like someone’s profile, swipe left, and if a profile makes you hot and heavy, swipe right. If both parties swipe right, then a ‘match’ is made, enabling you to send saucy, in-app messages to each other.

Tinder offers a simple and efficient dating/hookup experience for those who are looking to weed out the walking selfies in favor of more suitable suitors. It’s as easy as launching the Tinder app and swiping away.

The app pulls information from your Facebook profile, allowing you to compare mutual friends and interests without any awkward coffee dates. It’s a time and money saver that makes it easier to avoid meeting the wrong person.

However, it doesn’t help you find the right person, either.

Using Tinder in a small town like Grand Junction becomes a nuisance. CMU doesn’t sit in a dating hotbed like Los Angeles or even Denver, so there’s a good chance you’ll swipe away your entire Tinder population in less than an hour.

Of the people you swipe in Grand Junction, almost all of them will be within a square mile of you on any given day of the week. It doesn’t make much sense to message someone on Tinder when they sit behind you in Chem class—just go talk to them in person. Although Tinder is efficient, it’s much easier to find suitors face to face. Unless you’re scared.

It certainly doesn’t hurt to try out Tinder. After all, what do you have to lose? The app itself is simple and intuitive with the potential to connect you with beautiful people all over the world.

But if you’re looking for that special dime in Grand Junction, swipe Tinder to the proverbial left and meet people in the real world. The dime you’ve always dreamed of might walk right by you while you’re swiping on your smartphone.
