Compost facility request dips into reserves

Vice President of Student Services Jon Marshall kicked off this week’s ASG Meeting with a brief on the $1.49 student fee increase to help operate the Maverick Center.

After that, the night consisted of a single bill and by-law amendments.

That lone bill was ASG 13-77, requesting $1660 from the Mesa/Environmental fund. As reported last week, the last of the budgeted amount for this year was exhausted.

To the concern of the bill sponsor, Senator Ryan McConnell, the Senate failed to make an immediate note about this.

Senate Leader Adrienne Barlow was the only one to speak out about the lack of available funds but said the bill was a justified use of reserves.

The bill calls for pay for summer workers to watch the WCCC Compost Facility, which was not originally allocated in its initial $20,000 passed through an Executive Order from President Diamond.

According to Barlow and McConnell, failure to maintain the facility over the summer would be an absolute waste of the previous $20,000 invested. The bill passed with 18 for and one abstain by McConnel, who sits on the Sustainability Council.

After that, two amendments went through a third and final reading to become a permanent part of the by laws.

ASG 13-66 dealt with which senators represented which students. Computer science students were represented by both the professional studies senator as well as computer science and math senator. The department was kept only in that of computer science and math and omitted from professional studies.

Lastly, ASG 13-67 was another house- keeping issue. While by laws required the ASG Senate leader to post ASG bills on Mavzone, this recently has been the duty of the Director of Communications. The by laws were amended to reflect this.
