ASG update: New senators appointed

,

Three new senators were sworn in during Wednesday night’s ASG meeting, the first of the Spring 2014 Semester.

Daniel Chase, Josh Dillinger and Lyndsey Karp were appointed to fill the empty seats of Freshman Senator, Disabled Students Senator, and Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics Senator, respectively.

As is required by ASG bylaws, President Ariel Diamond shared with senators two executive orders that had been pushed through in previous weeks without a senate vote, due to the cancellation of ASG’s final meeting of the fall 2013 semester.

Executive Order 13-08 was submitted on Dec. 5, 2013, and stipulates that $1,315.36 be allocated from SCRF to the Radiological Technology Club. The funds will cover a portion of the transportation, lodging and registration fees required for 14 club members to attend the Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology’s annual conference in Las Vegas from Feb. 5-7.

Submitted by President Diamond on Jan. 22, Executive Order 13-09 requires that $4,400 be allocated from SCRF for the purchase of 50 memberships from the Montrose Gold’s Gym facility.

“The nature of this contract is to give the Montrose students the opportunity to use the gym, just as we use the rec center here, because they are paying the same student fees,” Diamond said.

Another piece of legislation affecting Montrose students was presented to and approved by the Senate in an 18-0 vote, from which Senator Dillinger abstained. Bill 13-28 will allow $250 to be pulled from the ASG operating budget in order to fund an outreach event at the Montrose Campus, encouraging students there to run for the Montrose Campus Senator seat. According to the wording of the bill, the event will also “answer questions about the ASG and student life, encourage involvement and brainstorm future Montrose campus retention and growth.”

The bill was sponsored by current Montrose Campus Senator Michael Schull, who, according to Senate Leader Adrienne Barlow, has discussed the possibility of leaving ASG.
