“Frozen” becomes an instant classic

A mere three years after the last Disney Princess movie, “Tangled,” Disney’s “Frozen” hit theaters over the Thanksgiving holiday and quickly canonized itself as a Disney classic.

Perfect for the Holiday season, “Frozen,” inspired by the 19th century classic “The Snow Queen,” is the second Disney animation loosely based off of a Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, its predecessor being the classic “The Little Mermaid.”

Set in the fictional medieval land of Arendelle, princesses Elsa (Idina Menzel, Broadway’s “Wicked”) and Anna (Kristen Bell, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) are forced to live in isolation following tragic circumstances. Several years later as it is time for Elsa’s coronation and the castle gates to open for the first time in years, it is discovered by all that Elsa holds powerful ice magic and accidentally freezes all of Arendelle. Determined to get her sister back and correct all wrongs, Anna, alongside ice vendor Sven andw adorable snowman Olaf, set out to find Elsa.

Despite its categorization as a children’s movie, “Frozen” is ideal for adults who grew up watching the classic Disney movies. Although the character of Olaf the Snowman could be seen as questionable from the trailers, all of the characters are lovable and can be empathized with. The soundtrack is not just catchy but Broadway and Oscar-worthy. If a Disney Princess movie sounds less than ideal, the animation and effects of “Frozen” are worth being seen in and of themselves.
