More campus construction is on its way, as CMU plans another student housing facility.

Construction of the residence hall across Orchard Avenue will be finished as CMU pushes to ensure available housing for the fall semester. After construction is completed, another building and more campus expansion will be underway.

As enrollment continues to increase, CMU’s administration is preparing for an 11th residence hall.

Vice President of Student Services John Marshall said location and construction dates are still under consideration, but the administration is looking at two possibilities.

“One possible location is off of Glenwood and Cannell,” Marshall said. “We’re also considering building around Cannell and Mesa avenues, across from the softball fields.”

Once the location has been decided, the style of housing will be considered.

“The location will determine whether or not we decide to build apartment style or traditional style rooms,” Marshall said. “Regardless of what is decided, we want something that’s very modern, fresh and compliments the rest of the buildings on campus.”

Marshall said living arrangements in the past may not have been ideal for some incoming freshmen, but the continuation of additional housing will help alleviate the problem completely, adding approximately 25 percent more beds.

The starting date of construction is still being discussed, but the residence hall will be finished by fall 2013.
