Main Street Bagels on North Avenue celebrated its one-year anniversary Nov. 5.
When the restaurant first appeared on Mesa State College’s campus last fall, it did not take long for students to realize where they were before business started picking up. There were ads in the paper, radio announcements, coupon books, a Facebook page and commercials on many local television stations that worked to get the word out about the new location.
Main Street Bagels has a mother location, at 559 Main St., which has operated in the Grand Valley for over 15 years. It offers everything from bagels, sandwiches, fresh-baked breads and healthy soups and salads. The store also offers coffees, loose-leaf teas, fresh smoothies, fruit juices and more.
The same products are offered at their newer location, located on the lower level of North Avenue Student Housing.
“It doesn’t feel like we have been here that long but at the same time if feels like we have been here forever because it is so comfortable,” said manager Denise Tripi.
Business is a little slower this year because of the economy and the construction on campus but Tripi said that their daily business usually consists of about half students and half local people.
“Having Main Street Bagels is a really nice addition to campus,” said sophomore Cori Ward. “It’s a great place to meet friends and have a cup of coffee with a cinnamon roll and the people are always really friendly.”
Main Street Bagels is great for students who don’t have a lot of time in the morning and want something fast.
“I really like how there is a Main Street Bagels on campus, it’s easy to grab a bagel and run to class,” said junior Alison Link.
The Main Street Bagels location on campus is open for business Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Its mother location is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sundays.
Tripi said that once the construction dies down, they are hoping that business will pick up a little more.
