With winter break approaching there are a few things to consider over break. After you have cried, screamed, pulled out your hair and bit your nails down to the cuticles; it is finally time to have some fun.

Things to do this Wonderful Winter season:

Snowboarding or skiing! Colorado has several mountains to go skiing or snowboarding. Close to Colorado Mesa University is Powderhorn. But there are several more resorts, from Winter Park to Telluride to Loveland to Aspen and more. Each mountain offers something different.

Sledding. Let’s go back in time to when we were children with no cares in the world and remember how much fun sledding was. If you don’t have a sled, just use a trash bag. Of course you usually need snow to sled, but you can also get a block of ice and go ice sledding on green grass. This way you can get the same experience.

Cross Country skiing. Get a taste of exploring the wilderness outdoors. Not only do you get a work out, but you get to breathe in the pine trees and nature.

Snow Shoeing. This is a lot like cross country skiing, but it is a bit easier. At least on this apparatus if you fall down you can easily get up. But beware on cross country skis . . . if you fall you may struggle to get back on your feet.

Ice Skating. What a special date idea or even for hanging out with friends and family. There is nothing cuter than gliding around on ice and then drinking warm hot chocolate to warm your insides.

Driving around to see Christmas lights. One of the best things about this time of year are the lights. Check out neighborhoods and look at all the different styles and decorations.

Lighting events like tree lightings, parades, zoo lights and other events. There are different events in Grand Junction and even more so towards the Denver area. Zoo lights is always a treat and you have to go at least once in your life. Grand Junction has their parade of lights as well as Denver and other areas. Check out websites for updated listings.

Watch all the Hallmark Christmas movies. Because they are simple, cute and warm your heart.

Drink hot chocolate with marshmallows. Duh.

Do things that you can’t do during school like movies during the day, wineries, sleeping all day, stay indoors, go on trips and take a much needed break.

Go see “The Grinch”.

Watch “It’s A Wonderful Life” because this is the ultimate holiday movie.

Spend time with family and friends.

Eat homemade food because mother’s food always makes the tummy happy.

Don’t clean anything because YOU ARE ON BREAK!

Enjoy the break, Mavericks, and take the chance to do everything you want, but also to relax and get ready for the next semester.
