Colorado Mesa’s Men’s Tennis team enjoyed a weekend sweep against RMAC opponents while the women’s team split the weekend series matchups against Metro State Friday and Colorado Christian Sunday.

Against Metro State, the women’s team suffered an 8-1 loss. Kristin and Katie Kirby earned the sole win of the day for CMU with an 8-2 win against Courtney Wright and Emily Kerr in the No. 1 doubles.

For the men, they earned a narrow 5-4 victory over the Roadrunners. After three games, the men fell behind 2-1, with Cody Freischlag and Nick Farmen getting the win at No.2 Doubles.

However the Mavs came back and won No 4, 5 and 6 to earn the victory. Coinciding the close margin of victory, four of the six matches went to the deciding third set.

Then on Saturday, CMU enjoyed two dominant victories. The men’s team won all nine matchups while the women coasted to a 8-1 victory to sweep the Cougars.

All three men’s doubles team won their matchups by a score of 8-2.

Lucas Martin also enjoyed a dominant victory, winning both of his sets 6-0. Nick Farmin got the momentum rolling for the men’s team, winning the No.1 matchup 6-1 and 6-0.

The Kirby duo were victorious again on Saturday with a 8-4 win at the No.1 doubles.

Kristin also won her singles matchup at No.1 singles 6-0 and 6-3. At No.4 singles Katie won both sets 6-2.

The men’s team now features a record of 5-6. The women’s team improved their record to 6-5. Both teams will travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on Newman University March 10.
