On Tuesday, Sept. 10 the results came in for the name of the new engineering building on campus.

Finishing with over 1,000 more votes than the runner-up Redlands, the name of the building will be Kokopelli Hall.

The name comes from the Kokopelli Loop Trails Area. Located in Fruita, the trail is 142 miles long and stretches all the way to Moab, Utah.

Kokopelli is a popular name in the Western Slope. A health and wellness center uses the name here in Grand Junction. Elsewhere there is Kokopelli Farm Market and a liquor store bearing the name.

There will now be a draw for iPads for the students who nominated Kokopelli and from the nine who nominated Redlands.
