The Hamilton Recreation Center is undergoing various changes in order to improve the facility and overall satisfaction of patrons. Many members have already utilized some of these updates. In order to pay for these changes, the HRC has increased prices by a minimal, yet evident, amount.

The HRC is now offering a variety of new options for group training classes, in hope of meeting everyone’s individual needs. Wellness assessments, which consist of one hour with a certified personal trainer, are still free.

Personal training packages are now offered in different sizes than they were in the past. Packages come in bundles of one, three and six sessions. Larger packages of 10, 20 and tandem training are also available to students.

“Certified personal trainers through HRC are still lower than any gym in the area, we are still competitive and offer a great product,” Kylie Holley, manager of wellness and fitness, said. “Even the personal trainers agree that they feel more comfortable being able to offer these packages.”

This is the first large restructuring of HRC since 2010, and the staff expects a great reaction. The most significant change is the addition of a new room on the east side of the building, near the basketball courts. This space will mostly be for patrons to use at their discretion, hence its designation as the “stretch area.” Staff expects this new space to be fully operative by September 18.

“The idea behind the new space is an open, functional, multipurpose area that is not congested with an immense amount of equipment,” Holley said.

As far as new equipment is concerned, the facility added three new large cable pieces: a cable crossover and two adjustable dual pulley systems. Holley said, “10 new spin bikes will arrive in November.”

Rates haven’t increased since 2010, therefore, they must be somewhat inflated in order to cover cost of keeping the gym and its features up-to-date.

All new rates and additions have been posted online and at the HRC front desk.
