The Yellow Jackets bench just was too good.

Colorado Mesa University traveled to Spearfish, ND, on Saturday night, to take on Black Hills State University (BHSU) in the first of three final road games for the Mavericks in the regular season. CMU didn’t perform poorly, but the bench players for the Yellow Jackets proved to be too much as BHSU handed the Mavericks their fourth straight loss in aa 84-74 contest.

Three Yellow Jackets came off the bench and scored in double digits on Saturday and completely tear up the court.  The impressive bench performance was lead by Dez Stoudamire, who scored 22 points and put up two pairs of assists and steals to go with it.

Stoudamire lead the Yellow Jackets in scoring in which was followed by Fraser Malcolm, who started the game for BHSU, by racking up 21 points and three assists. Other players like Makaleb McInnis and Connor O’Hearn came off the bench and added an additional 11 points.

49 points were scored off the bench for the Yellow Jackets while the Mavericks were able to receive nine points from the non-starters.

Leading team scorer, Connor Nichols did rack up 27 points and nine rebounds, but only other Maverick, in the form of Emilio Acedo, was able to score in the double digits.

Senior CJ Davis took only seven shots in which allowed him to score only five points to go with his four assists.

CMU drops to 11-15 on the year and has only two games left in the regular season.  The Mavericks will attempt to end the 2017-2018 season on a high note when they travel to CSU-Pueblo on Feb. 23 to take on the Thunderwolves, who the Mavericks dropped their last game against to back on Dec. 15.
